9th Syndicate Meeting Held at Habiganj Agricultural University
Whip G.K. Gaus Announces a BDT 5 Lakh Grant for the University Library
The 9th meeting of the Syndicate, the highest executive and policy-making authority of Habiganj Agricultural University, was held on Thursday, 2 July, at 11:00 a.m. on the university campus at Bhadai, Habiganj Sadar. The meeting was chaired by the Chairman of the Syndicate and Vice-Chancellor of the University, Professor Dr. Syed Sayeem Uddin Ahmed.
The 26-member Syndicate convened with the participation of distinguished members, including Hon'ble Whip of the Jatiya Sangsad and Member of Parliament for Habiganj-3, Alhaj Md. G.K. Gaus, and Member of Parliament for Habiganj-2, Dr. Abu Mansur Sakhawat Hasan Jibon.
Following the meeting, the Syndicate members visited the University's Molecular Biology Research Laboratory, Computer Laboratory, and Central Library. During the visit, Hon'ble Whip Alhaj Md. G.K. Gaus announced a grant of BDT 5 Lakh for the purchase of academic books for the University's Central Library.
The 9th Syndicate meeting was also attended by Syndicate members nominated by various ministries, divisions, and government agencies of the People's Republic of Bangladesh. These included Professor Dr. G.K.M. Mustafizur Rahman, Vice-Chancellor of Gazipur Agricultural University; Md. Mashiur Rahman, Divisional Commissioner of Sylhet; Dr. Md. Abdus Salam, Executive Chairman of the Bangladesh Agricultural Research Council; Md. Abdur Rahim, Director General of the Department of Agricultural Extension; Tarafder Md. Akther Jamil, Joint Secretary of the Secondary and Higher Education Division; Dr. Md. Mahmudur Rahman, Additional Secretary of the Ministry of Agriculture; Dr. Ashraf Uddin Ahmad, Director of the Bangladesh Agricultural Research Institute; Dr. K. M. Rezaul Karim, Head of the Planning and Development Division of the Bangladesh Sugarcrop Research Institute; Dr. Md. Lutfor Rahman, Chief Scientific Officer and Head of the Farm Management Division of the Bangladesh Jute Research Institute; Dr. Md. Shahidul Islam, Chief Scientific Officer and Head of the Agronomy Division of the Bangladesh Rice Research Institute; Dr. Shakila Faruk, Director General of the Bangladesh Livestock Research Institute; Dr. Anuradha Bhadra, Director General of the Bangladesh Fisheries Research Institute; Agriculturist Md. Shamimur Rahman; Agriculturist Dr. Md. Safiul Ahad Sardar, former Director of the Department of Livestock Services and Convener of the Bangladesh Veterinary Association; Professor Dr. Mohammad Yusuf Elahi Chowdhury of the Department of Medicine and Surgery, Chattogram Veterinary and Animal Sciences University; Professor Dr. Thahsin Farjana of the Department of Parasitology, Bangladesh Agricultural University; and Abdul Kaiyum Chowdhury, Proprietor of QC Enterprise (an agricultural input supplier), former Director of Nationality Company, and Administrator of Sylhet City Corporation.
The meeting commenced with the recitation of the Holy Qur'an. Tribute was paid to all those who sacrificed their lives and dedicated themselves to securing the rights of the people of Bengal, and prayers were offered for the eternal peace of their departed souls.
During the meeting, the Syndicate approved the University's budget of BDT 175,067,000 (One Hundred Seventy-Five Million Sixty-Seven Thousand Taka Only) for the fiscal year 2026–2027. The meeting also discussed and made important decisions regarding the University's academic, research, administrative, and infrastructural development.
Among the major decisions were the approval of the Statute for the Faculty of Postgraduate Studies, approval of internship logbooks for the University's four faculties, review of the latest progress on land acquisition for the permanent campus, presentation of the Development Project Proposal (DPP) for the feasibility study titled Development of Habiganj Agricultural University, and briefing on the project's Terms of Reference (ToR).
The Syndicate also adopted several important decisions concerning academic excellence, research advancement, administrative efficiency, infrastructure development, and the University's long-term strategic planning. Discussions focused on strengthening institutional capacity, accelerating development activities, and enhancing the University's national and international standing.
Syndicate members offered constructive opinions and recommendations aimed at improving academic quality, ensuring good governance, and promoting greater transparency and accountability in the University's administration.
At the conclusion of the meeting, the University authorities reaffirmed their commitment to establishing Habiganj Agricultural University as a modern, research-oriented, and internationally recognized institution through the continued cooperation and guidance of all stakeholders.
