Seminar and Fair on Agricultural Machinery Talent Hunt Held
A seminar and fair titled "Agricultural Machinery Talent Hunt" was held in Habiganj. The event was organized under the project "Enhancing the Profitability of Crop Production Systems through the Innovation of Agricultural Machinery and Appropriate Technologies (FMDP)" implemented by the Farm Machinery and Postharvest Process Engineering (FMPE) Division of the Bangladesh Agricultural Research Institute (BARI), in collaboration with Habiganj Agricultural University.
The seminar took place on Saturday, November 30, at 10:00 AM at the Habiganj District Shilpakala Academy Auditorium. The event was graced by the presence of the Vice-Chancellor of Habiganj Agricultural University, Professor Dr. Syed Sayeem Uddin Ahmed, as the chief guest. The seminar was presided over by Dr. Mahmudul Islam Nazrul, Chief Scientific Officer of the Bangladesh Agricultural Research Institute, and moderated by Lecturer Abdullah Al Masum, Acting Chairman of the Department of Agricultural Mechanization at Habiganj Agricultural University.
In his speech, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Dr. Syed Sayeem Uddin Ahmed, emphasized the importance of developing sustainable agricultural machinery in Bangladesh that meets the needs of the country's agricultural sector. He highlighted the necessity of collaboration between research institutions and universities to achieve this goal. Additionally, he stressed the need to focus on market systems to ensure that perishable agricultural products reach consumers in fresh condition through an efficient value chain.
The keynote presentation was delivered by Dr. Md. Nurul Amin, Director of the relevant project and Chief Scientific Officer of the Bangladesh Agricultural Research Institute. Other speakers at the seminar included Dr. Md. Abu Bakar Siddique, Assistant Professor at Habiganj Agricultural University; Dr. Md. Mahbubur Rahman, Chief Scientific Officer at the Bangladesh Sugarcrop Research Institute; and Mohammad Akhtaruzzaman, Deputy Director of the Department of Agricultural Extension, Habiganj.
At the conclusion of the seminar, a vote of thanks was given by Dr. Md. Ashrafuzzaman Golandaz, Scientific Officer at the Bangladesh Agricultural Research Institute. Following the seminar, an exhibition of agricultural machinery developed by the Bangladesh Agricultural Research Institute was held. The Farm Machinery and Postharvest Process Engineering Division of BARI has so far developed 55 types of agricultural machinery, which are being successfully utilized in the field. These machines have significantly reduced both labor and time required for agricultural work while also lowering production costs.
The seminar saw participation from faculty members and students from various departments of Habiganj Agricultural University, as well as students from other educational institutions.
