A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between Habiganj Agricultural University and the Center for Atmospheric Pollution Studies (CAPS)
A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) has been signed between Habiganj Agricultural University and the Center for Atmospheric Pollution Studies (CAPS) through a Zoom meeting for conducting joint research activities. On Sunday (7 September), in the presence of the Vice-Chancellor of Habiganj Agricultural University, Professor Dr. Syed Sayeem Uddin Ahmed, the MoU was signed by Md. Badrul Amin, Deputy Registrar (Acting) on behalf of the university, and Professor Dr. Ahmad Kamruzzaman Majumder, Chairman of CAPS, on behalf of the institution. During the signing ceremony, Rasheduzzaman Majumder, Director (Legal), Stamford University, was also present at the Zoom meeting. In addition, Md. Shakir Ahmad, Lecturer, Department of Environmental Science, Habiganj Agricultural University, along with teachers and students from other departments of the university, attended the program. The Center for Atmospheric Pollution Studies (CAPS) is a government-registered independent research institute. Since its establishment in 2017, CAPS has been working tirelessly in Bangladesh on various environmental issues related to air, noise, water, and waste pollution, climate change, and human health. It is one of the countrys leading specialized research institutions, dedicated to air quality monitoring and atmospheric pollution research. CAPSs mission is to create a cleaner, healthier, and more sustainable environment. To achieve this, it works as a bridge between science, policy, and society, collaborating with government agencies, non-governmental organizations, educational institutions, and international organizations. The primary objective of this MoU is to conduct research, theses, projects, and internships on air, water, and noise pollution, environmental sustainability, and climate change. With the support and supervision of CAPS, the agreement also includes, Establishing a Clean Air Club at Habiganj Agricultural University, Installing air pollution monitoring equipment on the university campus for research and academic purposes, Undertaking joint research and awareness activities in the haor region, industrial areas, environmental hotspots, and vulnerable communities, Promoting nature-based and community-based solutions, Mobilizing technical expertise, resources, and funding for joint projects. Under this MoU, joint workshops, seminars, training programs, and research projects will be implemented for students and researchers. This Memorandum of Understanding will remain effective for five (5) years from the date of signing and may be renewed upon written agreement by both parties. Either party may terminate it with three (3) months prior notice.
