Muhtasim Billah Sajid, born on June 15, 1995, in Kendua, Netrokona, is the third of five sons of Abdus Samad Azad and Jebunnesa Khandaker. He serves as Lecturer and Chairman (Acting) of the Department of Genetics and Plant Breeding under the Faculty of Agriculture at Habiganj Agricultural University (HAU). He passed his SSC and HSC under the Dhaka Board in 2010 and 2012, respectively. He completed Bachelor of Science in Agriculture (Hons.) in 2017 and an MS in Genetics and Plant Breeding in 2019 from Sylhet Agricultural University (SAU). He received the prestigious Oslo International Rotary Club (OIRC) Fellowship (2015–2018) and the NST Fellowship (2019). During his post-graduation, he worked as a Research Assistant on various projects under the Department of Genetics and Plant Breeding at SAURES. Beginning his professional career in 2023 as a Scientific Officer (SO-TRB) at the Bangladesh Rice Research Institute (BRRI), Sajid contributed significantly to the Plant Breeding Division of BRRI working on the Submergence Component and also serving as a Management Officer (MO) under the Transforming Rice Breeding Project. In BRRI Sajid’s research efforts were diverse and impactful. He was also a Co-Investigator in several key Experiments, such as-Development of Submergence, Water Stagnation Tolerant and Water-Saving Rice, F1 Confirmation of Water-Saving Rice Using Quality Control SNP Panels and Field RGA Nursery Experiments etc. In March 2024, he joined HAU, where he is contributing as a course teacher of different courses of GPB (Both Theory and Practical) like- Genetics and Cytogenetics, Molecular Genetics and Genetic Engineering, Plant Breeding, Special Plant Breeding and Plant Tissue Culture. With his strong moral character, passion for innovation, and commitment to agricultural advancement, Muhtasim Billah Sajid inspires his students and also colleagues through his dedication to Agricultural research and education while addressing key challenges in sustainable crop production of Bangladesh.
